Sillage is a fragrance journal. You can use it without an account, and most of what you record stays on your phone. This page says what leaves it, where it goes and why.

Without an account

Your journal, collection, wishlist, quiz answers, persona and settings are stored on your device only. Deleting the app deletes them.

With an account

Signing in with Google, or with Apple on an iPhone, creates an account so your journal can follow you between devices and so you can take part in the feed. We then store, in Google Firebase:

WhatWho can see it
The email address and name your sign-in provider gives usOnly you
Your handle and taglineAnyone using Sillage
Your journal of wears, your collection and your quiz answersOnly you, unless you make your journal public
Posts you share to the feed, your follows and your likesPeople using Sillage
Accounts you block and reports you makeOnly you (reports: only us)
Scents you ask us to add: the scent's name, its house and the note you write, if any, kept with your account IDOnly you and us

The launch list

If you leave your email address on thesillage.app to hear when Sillage is out, we store that address and the time you left it, in Google Firebase. Only we can see it. We use it once, to tell you Sillage is available, and for nothing else. To be taken off the list, write to the address at the bottom of this page.

Location

If you allow it, Sillage reads your approximate location to match a scent to the weather. The coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo, a weather service, to fetch the forecast. They are not stored on our servers. You can refuse location and still use the app.

Photos

A profile picture you choose stays on your device. It is not uploaded.

AI writing

The note on why a scent suits the day is written by Google's Gemini models through Firebase. To do that we send the scent's name, house and accords, the mood and a short description of the weather. We do not send your name, email or journal notes.

Usage analytics and crash reports

Unless you turn it off, Sillage uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count which pages are opened and which actions are completed (for example, logging a scent or finishing the quiz). Events are tied to a random identifier, never your name or email. We do not collect your device's advertising ID and we do not track you across other apps. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings, under About.

If the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends a crash report with technical details about the device and the error, so we can fix it.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. It is processed by Google (Firebase, Gemini, Analytics, Crashlytics) and Open-Meteo only to provide the features above.

Deleting your data

In Settings, Delete account erases your profile, posts, follows, likes, journal and collection from our servers and deletes the account itself. What is stored on your device stays until you remove the app or reset it in Settings.

Children

Sillage is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. Questions, requests about your data and takedown requests go to thesillageapp@gmail.com.
